No. You are free to use the consumable of your choice. Our products can be mixed with your original consumables without any difference in tone or colour.
The National consumer Councils' Gower report mentions the consumers right to choice and non-proprietary printer refills. Here follows an excerpt:-
Tying and bundling has, for many decades, been a key way in which companies have tried to constrain and limit competition. Tying is regarded by the European Commission as in breach of Article 82 of the EC Treaty (which prohibits the abuse of a dominant position) if:
- the tying goods and the tied goods are separate products;
- the licensor is dominant in the tying product market;
- the licensor does not give customers a choice as to whether they obtain a tying product with a tied product; and
- tying forecloses competition.
Recently this has led the Commission to force Microsoft to unbundle its media player from the Windows PC operating system shipped to consumers in Europe. In a well known case, Lexmark, a US printer manufacturer had for some years tried to halt the sale of generic print cartridges by claiming they deployed software elements that infringed the printer-makers IPRs (using the anti-circumvention provisions of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act), but last year the US Supreme Court finally ruled against this claim, freeing up the market for non-proprietary printer refills.
